Mission Statement

The mission of the Spring-Ford Youth Wrestling Club is to provide a competitive environment for youth wrestling. We want to teach your child the important aspects of the sport, a sense of fair play, the skill of the sport and how to have fun competing. This training will help your child to prepare for Middle School and High School Wrestling.

Philosophy

Spring-Ford Youth Wrestling Club is a competitive team. The coaching staff is committed to balancing competitiveness and maintaining a positive experience for all team members. Although we will always compete to win, it is not a win at all cost mentality.

New to Wrestling?

What to wear to practice

  • Shorts: Above the knee, No pockets
  • T-Shirt: No pockets, hoods, loose strings
  • Wrestling shoes: $25 - $60
    • SFYWC has upcycled shoes on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • Headgear: $25 - $45, required at practice, meets, and tournaments
  • Knee Pads: optional
  • Mouthguard: Not recommended unless your child has braces
  • Face mask

What NOT to wear to practice

  • Bracelets, Earrings or Jewelry
  • Glasses
  • Street shoes

Post-practice recommendations

  • It is highly recommended that after each practice your child shower with soap and water.

Parents Code of Conduct

  • Coaches have made a substantial commitment to every wrestler on this team. If a parent has an issue of concern, it can be discussed before or after practice or meets.
  • Please allow the staff to concentrate on coaching the team during practices and meets.
  • Parent coaching from the stands is not advised. This causes confusion and may result in poor wrestling. Positive encouragement is always welcomed.
  • Negative comments are never permitted. Please conduct yourself in a manner that would make your child proud.
  • This is a family-oriented team and we encourage parents to attend as many meets as possible.
  • Verbal or physical abuse of wrestlers, coaches or other parents, by parents is not tolerated. Any such activity will warrant immediate disciplinary action which may include removal of your child from the team.
  • MASKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE WORN DURING ANY EVENT BY THE ICWL. Coaches, Wrestlers and Referees are not required during practice and matches.

Coaches Code of Conduct

  • Each coach will do whatever possible to assist every wrestler to improve his skills and abilities.
  • Coaches will lead by example.
  • Conduct will be professional and above reproach at all times.
  • The coaches will display good sportsmanship.
  • Verbal or physical abuse of wrestlers, coaches or parents, by coaches is not tolerated. Any such activity will warrant immediate disciplinary action which may include suspension from coaching.

Wrestlers Code of Conduct

  • Always give 100% effort in practice and competition.
  • Maintain a high standard of discipline, both on and off the mat.
  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Make wrestling activities a priority. If you will miss a meet, contact a coach as soon as possible.
  • Conduct yourself in a way that would make your parents and coaches proud.
  • Verbal or physical abuse of wrestlers, coaches or other parents, by other wrestlers is not tolerated. Any such activity will warrant immediate disciplinary action which may include removal of your child from the team.

Teamwork

We practice as a team and compete as a team. Therefore, we expect that all members will attend as many wrestling meets and practices as possible. Because of other commitments and obligations, we understand that some members may not be able to attend all practices and meets. We ask that all members do the best that they can to attend as many as possible.
